What is RTMS and Why Does It Matter?
The Road Transport Management System (RTMS) is a voluntary self-regulation scheme for the South African road freight industry, governed by SANS 1395. It was developed to reduce road damage, improve road safety, and create a level playing field for compliant operators.
While technically voluntary, RTMS certification is increasingly required by mines, loading facilities, and large shippers as a condition of doing business. Companies without RTMS certification are being excluded from contracts.
